The bronze and black dial with Arabic numerals and gilt hands, telemeter and tachometer scales, two engine-turned dials for constant seconds and 10 minute registers, nickel finished jewelled lever movement, the case with snap on back, two chronograph buttons in the band, circa 1945, case 35mm wide, with signed manuscript letter from Montgomery headed Islington Mill, Alton Hampshire, dated 25-9-66, 'I have today sold to Anthony Wainwright the gold watch given me by Marshal Zhukov in 1945 - for £50, Montgomery of Alamein F.M.

After the war in Europe had officially ended on 8th May 1945 the heads of the victorious Russian and British forces, Marshal Zhukov and Field Marshal Montgomery finally met in Berlin on 5th July 1945.
At an official ceremony beside the Brandenburg Gate, Marshal Zhukov, who had lead the Russian Army to every major battle from Leningrad through to Berlin, and Field Marshal Montgomery, commander of the first major allied victory at El Alamein in 1942 and architect of the Normandy invasion, exchanged decorations. Zhukov was invested with the Knights Cross of the Order of the Bath, and Montgomery was decorated with the Russian Order of Victory.
To commemorate the occasion Zhukov presented Montgomery with an engraved gold watch, known as the 'Zhukov Watch'
