With royal emblems, including the Order of the Garter, Tudor rose, portcullis, fleur-de-lis, Scottish thistle and star, all with crowns above and two mottoes ‘ICH DIEN’ and ‘DIE ET MON DROIT’, restored
64 ½in. (164 cm.) high; 64 in. (162.5 cm.) wide

Specialist note

This screen displays many of the royal emblems and symbols that were adopted by Charles Barry when he redesigned the Palace of Westminster after the fire of 1834. The portcullis was a greatly favoured motif as a symbol of strength and redoubtability.
