Maffeo Pinelli, Venice, by whom commissioned in 1778 as part of a series of 168 portraits and from whom acquired in 1787 by the Pisani of Santo Stefano.

Specialist note

Francesco was the son of the painter Domenico Maggiotto, assistant and follower of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta. Like that of his father, Francesco's style is reminiscent of the great 18th-century tradition of Tiepolo, Longhi, Pittoni and Zuccarelli.
