Purchased by Mr. Moses Tanenbaum (1890), from the artist's agent, J.M. Jones of New York and thence by descent.

Specialist note

In a letter from James Gale Tyler to Mr Tanenbaum (11th July 1895) the artist ranks the picture 'in the front line' of his art work, calling it 'such a picture as an artist realy [sic.] wishes to be remembered by'.
