How to sell

MANDELSHTAM, Osip Emilevich (1891-1938; author) and IZENBERG, Vladimir Konstantinovich (1895-1969; illustrator). Kukhnia. [The Kitchen.] Moscow and St. Petersburg: Raduga, 1926.

4º (278 x 220mm). Colour illustrations throughout. Original colour-printed wrappers (trace of very light fading and very light wear near the edges.) Provenance: small Gosizdat stamp on the rear wrapper.

FIRST EDITION, AN EXCELLENT, UNRESTORED EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE RAREST RUSSIAN AVANT-GARDE BOOKS. Kukhnia is the best and, with Shary, one of the rarest of the children's books produced by Mandelshtam. Not in the British Library and not in the Mark Rats collection; WorldCat lists just two copies outside of Russia: at the New York Public and University of Pennsylvania libraries; a third is at MoMA. A REMARKABLE SURVIVAL, PARTICULARLY IN THIS CONDITION. MoMA, The Russian Avant-Garde Book, 643.
