FIRST EDITIONS, LIMITED ISSUES printed on hand-made paper and SIGNED BY MILNE AND SHEPHARD: When We Were Very Young, number 77 of 100 copies; Winnie-the-Pooh, number 269 of 350 copies; Now We Are Six, number 118 of 200 copies; The House at Pooh Corner, number 130 of 350 copies. Milne began the poems in When We Were Very Young for his son Christopher Robin. They originally appeared in Punch magazine and, to the shock of Milne and Methuen, the book sold out on publication day. It was an unqualified success, quoted, recited, and parodied everywhere. Milne's based the stories of his second major book Winnie-the-Pooh on a set of stuffed animals Christopher Robin (called "Billy Moon" in the family) owned. (4)
