Specialist note

In this series, Barbieri takes for inspiration as ever, iconic Italian Old Master paintings. He blurs part of the image and asks his viewer to double take. In this game of perception where painting becomes photograph, and vice versa, the artist poses some very interesting questions about the role of the photograph within a wider art-historical discourse.
