Specialist note

The figures disembarking at the Woolpack Inn are a motley crowd including a Jewish pedlar, an old soldier who is stick-thin but something of a dandy, to a jolly woman who supports an arthritic elderly man. The vehicle in which these people have been travelling is not a well-sprung stage coach but a humble farm waggon, covered with a tarpaulin.
