WENDELL CASTLE (B. 1932)

Beginning in the mid-1960s and through the 1970s, Wendell Castle mastered his stack lamination technique of forming an overall mass of wood which he could carve into sculptural forms. Executed in 1979 and 1980, a time when the designer began to move away from his stacked works toward the use of more decorative motifs, the present suite, in excellent original condition, exhibits all the technical virtuosity and artistic daring which give Castle's works their evocative presence.
