Cal. 861 copper-finished mechanical movement, 17 jewels, metal dust cap, black matte dial, luminous baton numerals, luminous hands, three engine-turned subsidiary dials for constant seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour registers, large tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case, black bezel with tachometer scale, two round chronograph buttons in the band, screw down case back engraved with inscription Flight-Qualified by NASA For All Manned Space Missions - The First Watch Worn on the Moon and the Speedmaster logo, stainless steel Omega bracelet and deployant clasp, case, dial, and movement signed

Specialist note

In 1962 NASA purchased watches from 10 different brands and subjected them to testing for use by astronauts. By 1964, six manufacturers were still in the running, and in 1965 NASA announced that Omega had passed all tests and was chosen for space missions. The first Speedmaster to land on the moon was on the wrist of Buzz Aldrin, actually the second man to step onto the moon.
