Specialist note

Franz Wolfgang Rohrich invented paintings in the manner of Cranach and Dürer without copying a prototype. Various versions of this double portrait in the manner of Lucas Cranach I, are known, one of them in the Louvre, Paris (inv. no. 1185). Another version was sold at Sotheby's, Paris, 22 September 2010, lot 44 (EUR 36,750).
