The acanthus cast corona above a scrolling baluster cage with three branches issuing foliage and terminating in conforming nozzles and drip pans, supporting three putti, variously stamped 'LH 836'

Specialist note

This chandelier is modelled on a renowned chandelier attributed to Jacques Caffieri, circa 1750, transferred to the Bibliothèque Mazarine, Paris, after the French Revolution (H. Ottomeyer & P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, 1986, p.137, fig. 2.10.3; and in P. Verlet, Les Bronzes dorés Français du XVIIIe Siècle, 1987, p.288, fig. 324. A closely related twelve-light chandelier, 20th century, sold Christie's New York, 'Treasures of France from the Sun King to the Belle Epoque', 24 October 2012, ($25,000).
