Specialist note

The frontal depiction of the handsome young boy with his pronounced eye lids, blank eyes, curved jaw-line and the truncation around the shoulders of the bust offered here all point to Johann Heinrich Dannecker's style of carving, two examples of which can be seen in the Straatsgalerie, Stuttgart and in Ludwigsburg Palace, Ludwigsburg (Dannecker, loc. cit.) all dating from between 1801-1813.
