Specialist note
The inscription around the border of the drawing is a fragment of Virgil's line from the Eclogues, X.69: 'omnia vincit Amor et nos cedamus amori [Love conquers all; let us all yield to Love]'. Only the latter part is inscribed because the first part is illustrated by the drawing itself.
