From a Malaysian Private Collection
After three years of Fine Art study in Japan, Yang Shanshen began his painting exhibitions in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia from 1938. Having met Xu Beihong in Singapore in 1940, he was inspired by Xu's patriotism and exhibited paintings more often to fund war victims in China. Along with fellow Lingnan artist Zhao Shao'ang, both artists were well received in South East Asia, and were often featured in local newspapers and journals. In particular, Lots 1093 and 1094 were painted in Ipoh and dedicated to local collectors.
