Specialist note

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvery rose dial and raised rose gold indexes in 1946 and its subsequent sale on 21 November 1946.

The large Calatrava model reference 570 was introduced into the market in 1938, featuring either subsidiary or sweep centre seconds. It was available in stainless steel, yellow, pink gold, white gold and platinum.

This rose gold, large Calatrava is certainly one of the most attractive and charismatic examples coming to the auction market in recent years. Not only does it deserve to be described as all original and unrestored, but furthermore impresses with its very crisp case and fascinating two-tone rose gold dial. Bezel and lugs are remarkably well defined and the gold marks, applied to the right and respectively the left band, astonishingly crisp. The two-tone rose gold dial is "evenly uneven" with the rose gold applied hour markers having developed over the last 65 years a superb brown-blue-purplish oxidation. This "Calatravone" (Italian nick-name for a large Calatrava) will spoil its future owner with charm and personality that no contemporary wristwatch can ever match.
