This composition relates closely to the work by Panini recorded in F. Arisi, Gian Paolo Panini e i fasti della Roma del '700, Rome, 1986, p. 478, no. 501, with the present lot omitting part of the Corinthian ruin to the left, and the figure to the left of the vase.
