The caned back and seat with an intricately carved foliage cresting centred by a god within a temple above serpents on either sides, the scrolled arms, seat and legs with foliate carving, on animal head feet

Specialist note

The carving of the architectural motifs is inspired by furniture made in Southern India, mainly the Madras School of Art. The chair form is of a standard type made especially in the Bombay Presidency.
