The marble base inscibed 'MAISON DE L'INGR. CHEVALIER OPTN. PLACE DU PONT-NEUF. 15. PARIS', supporting a lens on a brass frame calibrated for the relevant month, a cannon and a gnomen
Base -- 10¾ in. (27 cm.) diameter; height 9 in. (23 cm.)

Specialist note

The cannon dial was patented by Victor Chevalier (1770-1841) an instrument maker in Paris.
