ABRAHAM DANIEL (BRITISH, C. 1750-1806) OR JOSEPH DANIEL (BRITISH, C.1760)
A gentleman called Pryce Edwards (d. 1809), in blue coat, white cravat, powdered hair
on ivory
oval, 2 9/16 in. (65 mm.) high, rectangular ebonised wood frame

By repute, from a direct descendant of Josiah Nisbet, Admiral Lord Nelson's step-son

Specialist note

The sitter is identified on the reverse as Pryce Edwards of Talgarth Hall, only son of Lewis and Ann Edwards. According to the inscription Pryce died in 1809, aged 23. The apparent age of the sitter and date of execution suggests the identification may be erroneous and the portrait may in fact be of his father, Lewis (d. 1797). The miniature is also erroneously attributed to George Engleheart.
