In Landscape by the River (Lot 2204), Tu Ke sheds light on the object plane and the contour lines to enervate the three-dimensional construction of landscape. Similar to the Post-impressionists, Tu believes that the imitations of natural colours can no longer speak for the artistic composition. Through his subjective use of colours, a mystic touch of nostalgia is bestowed upon the scenery of the Li River and Yangshuo.
