Specialist note

The 212-ton brigantine Wasa was one of ten ships which belonged to the fleet of shipbuilder and shipowner G.W. Hammarberg (1853-1925) of Figeholm on the Swedish Baltic coast. Her master between 1884 and 1891 was Anders Olsson, and she is seen here wearing the ensign of the Swedish-Norwegian Union which was jokingly called the 'Herring Salad', after the colours of a salad of pickled herring, beetroot, and potatoes. Wasa was lost when she grounded in a violent snow storm in the Sound in 1909.
