Specialist note
This bureau is fine example of late 18th century marquetry prevalent in furniture produced in the workshops of Western Germany at the end of the 18th century. Both the general shape of the bureau, as well as its boldly geometric parquetry designs, relate to multiple closely related examples. Two such bureaux and a secretaire with similar fan inlay are illustrated in H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des Deutschedn Möbels, vol. III, Munich, 1973, nos. 148 and 229 and 83 (respectively).
