Yang Maoyuan (b. 1966)

Drawing from Western cultural ideas, Yang Maoyuan has developed a unique artistic practice. He references the Western concept of "beauty," but only in order to question the very concept itself. Aimed at the philosophies which have long dominated Europe, he smooths and polishes the edges and corners of classical "Western" sculpture, drowning out the excess noise. And in doing this, Yang Maoyuan presents to his viewer the Eastern concept of harmony.
