Specialist note

William Wellesley-Pole, Baron Maryborough and later 3rd Earl of Mornington, was second eldest brother of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. He was Chancellor of the Irish Exchequer and a member of both the British and Irish Privy Councils. On the death of his brother, Richard, 1st Marquess Wellesley in 1842, he succeeded to the earldom of Mornington. He married Katherine Forbes, daughter of Admiral John Forbes, in 1784 and they had four children. One of their three daughters, Emily, married Lord FitzRoy Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan in 1814.
