Follower of Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-1779)

This pastel is a copy of the famous Mengs portrait of Dorothea Schumann, currently in the Dresden Museum, inventory number P168. The Mengs pastels in Dresden were the subject of widespread copying in the late 18th century, and many such as this were of a very high standard.
