In the Persian taste, of inverted tear-drop form with scroll handles and feet, finely painted with a view of Loch Katrine, identified on the underside, within a wide gold-ground band applied with turquoise 'jewels', the cover, neck and foot all double-walled and pierced with either honeycomb or scrollwork

Specialist note

Loch Katrine, in the heart of the Scottish Trossachs, was immortalized by the poetry of Sir Walter Scott. While on vacation at the loch with his wife and daughter, Scott began writing 'The Lady of the Lake' in August 1809. This work marked the pinnacle of Scott's popularity as a poet. With 25,000 copies sold in eight months, it broke all records for the sale of poetry.
