Specialist note
Records in the Linke Archive indicate that index number 125 was available solely in the present size, though with interchangeable vernis Martin or marquetry panels. Elegantly engraved lockplates, such as the example on the present commode, marked a 'high point' in Clément Linke's career as his brother's primary lock supplier and decorative locks of this type were reserved for few designs in Linke's oeuvre (C. Payne François Linke: The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003, p. 357).
