The frieze inscribed Lof godt van al above the waisted tapering body decorated with scrolling folliage, with a fish shaped handle to each side, above a spreading turned foot, with a brass pestle
15 cm. high x 16.5 cm. diam.

Specialist note

A mortar with comparable frieze design and dolphin handles attributed to Wegewart is in Museum de Waag in Deventer and illustrated in dr. D.A. Wittop Koning, Nederlandse vijzels, Amsterdam, 1989, p. 53, Afb. 47.
