Specialist note
Magistretti (1920 - 2006) graduated from Milan Polytechnic in 1945. He worked for a number of well-known companies including Cassina, Artemide, and Rosenthal. After a period in his father's architectural practice he set up on his own as an architect and designer. One of the pioneers of stylish plastic furniture design, his elegant designs for Artemide included the Selene stacking chair (which, with the Panton Chair and Joe Colombo's Universale, vied to become the world's first plastic chair), designed in 1961 and produced in a variety of bright colours.
