the complete set of five etchings, circa 1650, on laid paper, two with a Letters MAI and Crest watermark, very good impressions, printing with subtle tone, with small margins, in very good condition; with Herman Saftleven, Field before a Farm amid Trees: Girl milking a Cow (Holl. 38), a good impression, thread margins, good condition

Specialist note

Until recently, these five prints by Jan van Goyen were attributed to Jan van der Capelle. Today it is generally accepted that this set is in fact by van Goyen himself. The sixth print in this lot, by Herman Saftleven, was traditionally considered to complement the set, however there is no firm connection to van Goyen's five prints.
