Specialist note

This work is recorded in the Vollard archives under photograph no. 164.
Whilst Rewald (op.cit.) dates this watercolour to 1885, Venturi, in his notes for the unpublished revised edition of his 1936 catalogue raisonné proposed 1890-1892 as a date of execution.
