This composition is derived after a print by J. Londerseel in the Rijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam, which in turn is after a lost original by Henrick Aerts (active 1602).
A signed version by Pieter Neefs II, on panel, was sold at Christie's, London, 9 July 2008, lot 117 and a second one, signed by Pieter Neefs I, also on panel, was offered with Sotheby's, Amsterdam, 12 November 1991, lot 77.
