8o (157 x 95 mm). Half-title, errata and advertisement leaves. (Faulty inking affecting last line of text on page 105.) Contemporary mottled calf gilt, marbled edges (a few skillfull repairs, light wear at extremities). Exhibited: Grolier Club, 'This powerfull rime,' 1975, no. 46.

FIRST EDITION. Poems on Various Subjects is Coleridge's first collection of poetry and, apart from the first part of The Fall of Robespierre, 1794 and several lectures issued as pamphlets, his first complete book. One of the sonnets included in the "Effusions" section was written by Robert Southey and four were the first published work of Charles Lamb (although one was attributed to Coleridge in subsequent editions).
