Specialist note

Ismail Gulgee created Al Muhsi as a unique composition belonging to an important series in his oeuvre. Painted in 1996, the artist combined abstract action painting and Islamic calligraphy. The title translates as 'The Reckoner' (or, Keeper of Accounts) and is one of the ninetynine names of Allah.
