Specialist note
This pier table is an early example of the classically-derived form crafted in New York City and labeled by the expatriate master French cabinetmaker Charles Honore Lannuier. Based on ancient architectural forms from Greece and Rome, such as altar tables and pedestals, the present lot gracefully displays the precise lines, rich graining and bronze mounts characteristic of the Antique Style developed by Lannuier and his contemporaries in New York in the early nineteenth century. For related examples, please see Peter Kenny, Honore Lannuier, Cabinetmaker from Paris (New York, 1998), pp. 69-75.
