Naturalistically modelled as an Italian greyhound wearing a gilt collar, settled on a rectangular floral cushion with gilt lace edging and tassles, inscribed under base 'Chien favorit de feu S.M. l'Imperatrice Catherine de Russie', marked under base
43 cm. long

Specialist note

This model of a Russisches Windspiel was first modelled by J.J. Kändler in 1766. For another example in the Dresden Schloß, see Carl Albiker, Die Meissner Porzellantiere im 18. Jahrhundert, Berlin, 1959, no. 179.
