Harding, requesting that Lincoln reconfirm his appointment as a lieutenant in a Kentucky regiment. Lincoln writes, "Respectfully submitted to the War Department." An instance of unusually shaky penmanship and signature by Lincoln, suggesting this must have been written while riding in a carriage or a train.
