The hinged rectangular top opening to a blue velvet-lined interior, over a conforming frieze set with gilt-decorated panels depicting pagodas, birds in flight and stylized landscapes, on four tapering fluted legs joined by a stretcher centered with a lidded urn

Specialist note

This finely-cast vitrine-table is an excellent example of bronze furnishings frequently associated with Beurdeley's atelier, which Christopher Payne mentions were 'often a feature of the Beurdeley firm's work'. An ormolu center-table with a similar festooned urn mounted on the stretcher is cited in C. Payne, 19th Century European Furniture, Woodbridge, 1981, p. 226, No. 683. Another table incorporating a similarly-shaped stretcher is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 81.
