The plain blade engraved with an inscription, contained in a fitted case
11½ in. (29 cm.) long
The inscription reads 'County Borough of Northampton 1837-1897, presented by the committee to the Countess Spencer on the occasion of her laying the memorial stone of the building erected in the borough of Northampton to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, the third day of May 1900, H.E. Randall, Mayor, 1897, J.O.S. Jeffrey Mayor, 1900, architects C. Dorman and Son' and relates to Charlotte, Countess Spencer (1835-1903), wife of John Poyntz, 5th Earl Spencer (1835-1910).
