George Appleyard (d.1855), George John, 2nd Earl Spencer's secretary and librarian at Althorp and Spencer House, and by descent to Lady Sarah Spencer (1787-1870), daughter of George John, 2nd Earl Spencer.

Specialist note

The present miniature derives from a large-scale portrait on canvas by Sir Joshua Reynolds, P.R.A. of Lavinia, Countess Spencer, in the Spencer Collection at Althorp.
