Each tapering square with stepped base, the covers with baluster finials, the coffee-pot with interchangeable ebony and ivory handles, each marked underneath and on cover bezel, the bases further stamped 'Garrard & Co., 112 Regent Street London'

Specialist note

This coffee pot is a copy of one ordered by Mrs Elton for Sir Abraham Elton, Bt by George Wickes in 1745 (E. Barr, George Wickes Royal Goldsmith 1698-1761, London, 1980, p. 114, pl. 68). Elton was Sheriff, and later Mayor, of Bristol. As he was unmarried the coffee pot may have been a gift from a sister-in-law or perhaps one of his unmarried sisters.
