Pullan's Theatre of Varieties, Brunswick Place, Bradford. Tuesday, August 10th 1880, under the Patronage and Presence of the Australian Cricketing Team. The performance will commence with ... Bulwer Lytton's The Lady of Lyons, first performed in 1838, remained a popular romantic drama for the rest of the century. However, this is probably the only mention of a performance before a celebrity audience of Australian cricketers, illustrating that the tourists had relatively few games arranged and ample time for social activities. Having already played two matches against Yorkshire and beaten Gloucestershire at Clifton, on August 2-4, they rested until meeting England at the Oval, September 6-8, losing this sole Test match by five wickets but drawing a record attendance of 20,814 persons on the first day.
