Specialist note
The three-masted steel barque Penrhyn Castle was built by C. Hill at Bristol for Robert Thomas & Co. of Criccieth, North Wales, in 1890. Registered in London at 1,367 tons gross (1,349 net) and measuring 238 feet in length with a 36 foot beam, she was still working for her original owners when she was torpedoed and sunk on 22nd September 1915, two days out from Bahia Blanca, whilst on passage to Fremantle, Australia, with a cargo of wheat.
