Specialist note
In December 1854 Buvelot travelled to Calcutta with the Austrian artist Ferdinand Krumholz, hoping to establish a studio of photography and painting. The venture failed and in August 1855 Buvelot took an appointment as drawing master at a new industrial school at Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland.
