Specialist note
Charlier was primarily a miniaturist of erotic genre scenes. It is thought that he may have studied under Boucher, many of whose pictures he copied. Among his patrons were Madame de Pompadour, the duc de Caylus, the duc d'Aumont, and the duc d'Orléans.
