Specialist note

Midford Castle was built in 1775 for Henry Disney Roebuck from designs by John Carter in the shape of a trefoil plan formed by three semi-circular towers conjoined in the gothic style. Michael Briggs and his wife, the author Isabel Colegate, bought Midford in 1961 and carried out extensive renovation, incorporating the chapel into the garden as a picturesque ruin.
