Lot 88 Property from the Estate of Michael & Elsa Combe-Martin
The following six prints by Man Ray are the last from a significant group of works gifted over a number of years by Man Ray and his wife Juliet to their close friends Michael and Elsa Combe-Martin. The collection included fine vintage prints of Woman with Glass Tears (now in the collection of Sir Elton John) and Noire et Blanche. Their friendship reflected shared interests in the arts, but also the debt owed by Man Ray to Elsa, for it was through an introduction initiated by her that Man Ray, newly arrived in Hollywood after leaving Paris at the outbreak of war, met his bride-to-be Juliet.
