4° (250 x 195mm). With the half-title. Engraved frontispiece, two folding plates. (Spotting in the plates.) Contemporary russia by Ph. Selenka with his ticket, sides with frame in gilt and blind, marbled edges.

IN A FINE BINDING BY SELENKA. One of only 200 copies printed, of which 100 for sale. Letronne considers the epigraphy of the phenomenon associated with the Theban colossus known as the Vocal Memnon, so named because of a harmonious rumbling which seemed to emanate from this statue. Its oracular power was famed throughout the ancient world. Rare: ABPC records no copy selling at auction in over 30 years. Blackmer 1013; Brunet III, 1021.
