Boucher's painting Le But, the cover depicting a nymph with tambourine and censor accompanied by a trumpeter and youths making offerings to the Autumnal harvest deity, the side frieze with nymphs and satyrs celebrating Arcadian life, the base with cloud-borne putti bearing a garland, the interior of the lid enamelled with a scene from Ovid's Metamorphoses of a goddess sporting with Cupid's arrows, reeded mounts, slightly raised incorporated floral thumbpiece set with a yellow gemstone surrounded by table-cut emeralds, rubies and rose-cut diamonds
